12 Tips for Playing Craps

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

Here are some tips to help you win at craps.  These tips assume that you already know how to play craps, and understand the different types of bets that are available.  Using these tips can help you improve your chances of winning at craps.

1.  If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask the dealer.  Good dealers are willing to answer any questions you have.

2.  Keep your hands out of the way of the dice.  Don’t put your hands on the table.

3.  Make sure you understand what is going on in the game before you place any bets.

4.  Find a table with a minimum bet that you are comfortable with.  If you are playing at a table with a high minimum, a bad run can wipe out your bankroll in no time.

5.  Roll the dice correctly.  You should toss them across the table, not slide or drop them.  If you are unsure of the proper way to roll the dice, watch the other players at the table for awhile before joining in.

6.  Pick up your winnings.  The dealer will not hand them to you.  You will have to pick them up off the table.

7.  The best bets to make are pass/don’t pass and come/don’t come.

8.  Always back up your line and come bets with an odds bet.

9.  Place bets on the six or eight in $6 increments.

10.  Don’t place proposition bets.  Those are the bets placed in the center of the table.  The casino has a high advantage on these bets.

11.  If you are betting against the dice, never yell out what you are hoping for.  Rooting against the other players is considered rude.

12.  It may be necessary to have the dealer place some of your bets for you.

Managing Your Bankroll in Craps

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

Regardless of what game you are playing, being able to manage your money is a vital skill when you are gambling.  The number one rule is that you should never bet more than you can afford to lose.  The number two rule is don’t bet any money that would cause you to feel distressed if you lost it.  This depends on your personality.  Some people can have thousands of dollars and still be distressed if they lose twenty.  Others might be able to bet all but enough to cover their basic bills and still not give it another thought.

When you are gambling, your goal should be to have a good time.  If it is not fun, you shouldn’t be doing it.  When deciding how much you should bet, think about how much a fun evening is worth to you.  If you don’t make any money at all gambling, how much is the evening worth to you?

Once you have decided how much money to bring with you to the casino, you need to decide how much to bet at one time.  The easiest way to do this is to divide your entire bankroll by fifty.  For example, if your bankroll is $100, you shouldn’t bet more than $2 at a time.  If you want to make $5 bets, you need at least $250.

That will give you enough money to survive a dry spell or catch a hot roll.  If you are able to double your money, you’re doing great. Once you do, you should quit.  If you’re a right bettor and there’s a hot roll, you should leave once it ends.  They don’t come along often, so that’s a good time to stop for the night.

The opposite is true if you are betting wrong.  If there is a cold spell, you should leave the table when the cold spell ends.

You should always set a loss limit before you go into a casino.  Decide how much you can afford to lose, and stick to that limit.  Never dip into money that was not designated in advance for gambling.  Once you have lost the money you had set aside for playing, it’s time to leave the casino.  You can always play again another day.

Learn How to Win at Craps

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

There are two main ways to bet in craps, with the dice or against the dice.  If you are betting with the dice, you are betting that there will be a lot of 7’s and 11’s in the come-out roll.  You are also betting that the shooter will be able to establish a point and then roll that number again before sevening out.  When you bet this way, you are betting right.  This doesn’t mean it is better than betting against the dice.  It is a just a term that is used to describe this betting method.

If you are betting wrong, then you are betting against the dice.  In this case, you are betting on craps being rolled on the first roll, or the shooter not making his or her point.  Whether you bet right or wrong, the odds of winning are about the same.

Craps is a game that is based on luck, but proper strategy can improve your chances.  You need to choose your bets wisely.  Some have much better odds than others.  If you place bets that have a big house edge, you are likely to lose your money.

Good Bets for Right Bettors

The best bet for a right bettor is the pass line bet.  This bet offers the lowest house edge.  Whenever a point is established, you should also take odds on the point.  Ask the dealer what the maximum amount you can bet on the odds is, and bet that amount.

If the pass line bet doesn’t provide enough action for you, place one or two come bets as well.  Place the maximum odds bet on the come wagers as well.

By making only these bets, you will have the best chance of winning with a hot roll.  The house has a very small edge on these bets.  You have almost as much chance of winning as you do of losing, but not quite.

If you want to be a little more aggressive about your betting, you could also make a place bet on the 6 or 8.  The casino has a larger advantage on this bet, but you could make some good money if there are long rolls.

These are the only bets you should consider if you are betting right.  The house advantage is too large on other bets.  If you place bets where the house edge is high, you can run out of money quickly.

Good Bets for Wrong Bettors

If you are betting against the dice, you should make a don’t pass bet.  After the point is established, lay a single odds bet against it.  Never lay double odds, because if there is a hot roll your money will quickly disappear.

If you want to play more aggressively, you can make one or two don’t come bets and lay single odds wagers against them as well.  These are the only good bets for wrong bettors.

How to Play Craps

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

Craps is a casino game that involves betting on the outcome of a throw of the dice.  That sounds simple, but if you take a look at the craps table you’ll realize there’s more to it than that.  Here is an introduction to the game of craps for someone who has never played before.

Game Play

The craps table has room for 16 players, but only one person throws the dice at a time.  This person is referred to as the shooter.  The first roll that the shooter makes is called the “come out” roll.  If the shooter throws a 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12 on the come out roll, that ends the round.  The next round then begins with the same shooter rolling a new come out roll for the next round.

If the shooter throws a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 on the come out roll, then the number that was thrown is established as the “point number.”  The shooter then continues to roll, trying to get the point number a second time before rolling a seven.  If the shooter succeeds in getting the point number a second time, the round ends and a new round begins with the same shooter rolling the come out roll to start the next round.  If the shooter rolls a seven before rolling the point number a second time, the round is ended and the person to the player’s left becomes the new shooter.

Betting

There are many different bets in craps, and some of them are pretty complicated.  Make sure you understand how the bets work before placing them.  Here is a summary of different bets that can be placed in craps.

PASS LINE:  The pass bet is placed before the shooter makes the come out roll.  It is an even-money bet.  A roll of 7 or 11 wins, and a roll of 2, 3 or 12 loses.  If the roll is any other number, the bet “travels” to that number and the shooter must roll that number again in order for the bet to win.

DON’T PASS LINE:  The don’t pass bet is the opposite of the pass bet, except that 12 is a push.  If a 12 is rolled, the bet is returned to the person who placed it.  7 or 11 loses and 2 or 3 wins.  Any other number travels and the bet then wins only if a seven is rolled before the point number is rolled a second time.

COME:  The come bet is the same as the pass line bet except that the come bet is placed after the come out roll, and if it travels, it goes to the number that is thrown immediately after the bet is placed, not to the point number.  A come bet is an even-money bet.

DON’T COME:  The opposite of a come bet, except that the 12 is a push, just like in the don’t pass bet.

ODDS:  Once you have a pass, don’t pass, come or don’t come bet that has traveled to a number, you can place an odds bet on that number.  Payoff for odds bets are 2 to 1 for 10’s and 4’s, 3 to 2 for 5’s and 9’s and 6 to 5 for 8’s and 6’s.  If you are taking an odds bet on a pass or come bet, you are betting for the number.  If the original bet was a don’t pass or don’t come, you are betting against the number.

PLACE:  A place bet can be placed on the number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 after a point has been established. If your number is rolled before the seven, you win.  If the seven is rolled first, you lose.  This bet pays 9 to 5 on 4’s and 10’s, 7 to 5 on 5’s and 9’s and 7 to 6 on 8’s and 6’s.

FIELD:  A field bet is a bet that either a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 will be rolled on the next roll.  All field bets except 2 and 12 pay 1 to 1.  The 2 pays 2 pays 2 to 1, and the 12 pays 3 to 1.

BIG 6 OR BIG 8:  An even-money bet on 6 or 8 that pays off if the number comes up before seven.

PROPOSITION:  Proposition bets are the bets placed in the center of the table.  Proposition bets include Horn bets, Hard Way Bets, Any Seven, Any Craps and Hop bets.

HORN:  A horn bet is a bet on 2, 3, 11 and 12.  It is a combination bet that is really consists of four bets, one on each of the numbers.  It pays if any of the numbers is rolled.  This is a one-roll bet.  A Horn High bet is a horn bet with an extra amount bet on one of the four numbers in the horn.

HARD WAY:  A hard way bet is a bet that a number will roll the hard way, as doubles.  For example, an eight rolled the hard way would be two fours.  This roll loses on seven or if the number is rolled the easy way.  The bet remains active for the next roll until it either wins or loses.

ANY CRAPS:  This is a one-roll bet on 2, 3 or 12.  If any of those numbers is rolled, you will be paid at 7 to 1.

ANY SEVEN:  A one-roll bet that pays 4 to 1 if a seven is rolled in any combination.

HOP:  A hop bet is a bet on a specific dice combination, such as 5-3 or 2-4.  This is a one-roll bet that pays 30 to 1 on hard ways and 15 to 1 on easy ways.

Very Good Craps Bets

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

If you’ve been researching ways to win at gambling, it’s likely you’ve seen dozens of systems being sold that promise to make you a winner.  There are systems available for every game that is played in the casino, and craps is no exception.

You need to remember that no matter what system you use, the house always has an advantage in every game they offer.  Casinos never offer even odds for a game.  There is always less than a 50-50 chance that you will win.  This allows the casino to be guaranteed a profit over time.  Take a lot at the décor and architecture of the casino next time you are there.  These buildings cost a lot of money to build and maintain.  If the casinos were not making money, they would not be able to afford luxuriously designed and decorated buildings that they occupy.

So, if the house always has an advantage, why do people bother buying systems and strategies for casino games?  It is because they want to believe that they can somehow outsmart the casino.  That doesn’t necessarily mean that all strategies are useless.  Some of them can help you to improve your performance on the games.  However, no system can guarantee that you will win every time.

Here are some of the most common bets in craps, along with an overview of how they are used.  These bets are a good way for beginners to get started playing.  Once you understand how to use these bets, you can start learning some of the other bets that are available in craps.  Craps is a complicated game, so stick to the basics first until you are more comfortable with how the game is played.

Pass

The pass, or pass line bet, is the most common bet in craps.  It is placed before the “come out roll,” which is the first roll made by a new shooter.  The house edge on a pass bet is only 1.41 percent.  This is an even-money bet.  That means that the payout for a winning bet is equal to the amount that was bet.

There are three possible outcomes for the pass bet after the come out roll.  If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, the pass bet wins and is paid out.  If the shooter rolls craps (2, 3 or 12), the pass bet is lost.  If the shooter rolls any other number (a point number), then the bet travels.  What this means is that the pass bet is moved to the number that was rolled (the new point number).  If that number is rolled a second time before the shooter rolls a seven, then the pass bet wins.  If the shooter rolls a seven before rolling the point number again, then the pass bet loses.

Don’t Pass

A don’t pass bet is the opposite of a pass bet.  The odds for this bet are slightly better than for the pass bet.  The house has an advantage of 1.4 on this bet, as opposed to 1.41 on the pass bet.  This is also an even-money bet.

A don’t pass bet wins on 2 or 3 and loses on 7 or 11.  If a 12 is rolled, the bet is a “push.”  This means that the person who placed the bet will have their bet returned to them, but not receive a payout.  If the shooter rolls a point number, then the don’t pass bet will pay out if a seven is rolled before the point number is rolled a second time.

Come

A come bet is similar to a pass bet.  However, this bet can be placed at any time and acts on the next roll of the dice.  Like the pass bet, it wins if the next roll is 7 or 11 and loses if the next roll is a 2, 3 or 12.  It travels to the number that is rolled if it is any other number.  If that number comes up again before a seven is rolled, then the bet is won.  If the seven comes up first, it is lost.  The difference between this bet and the pass bet is that the number that the bet travels to is not the point number.  Instead, it is the next number rolled after the bet is placed.

Don’t Come

A don’t come bet is the opposite of a come bet.  It wins on 2 or 3, loses on 7 or 11, pushes on 12, and travels on any other number.  If it travels, it is the number that was rolled right after the don’t come bet was placed that it travels to, not the point number.  The don’t come bet is then won if the seven comes up before the number does, and lost if the number comes up before the seven.

These bets offer the best odds of any bets in craps, so they are a good place for beginners to start.  Once you have more experience playing the game, you might want to try some other types of bets.

Placing Field Bets in Craps

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

If you have been playing craps for awhile, you probably know what a field bet is.  However, you may not understand the advantages of using it.  And for those who are new to craps, you might not understand how this bet works at all.  Here is an overview of the field bet and how it is used when playing craps.

The field bet is a one roll bet.  That means that it is active for one roll only, and either wins or loses based on the results of that roll.  The field bet is a bet on the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 11 or 12.  There are 36 possible dice combinations, and the field numbers make of 16 of them.  That means the true odds for rolling a field number are 16:36 and the true odds for rolling a non-field number are 20:36.  At first glance, this makes the field bet look like a bad bet.

However, there are reasons to consider using the field bet in craps.  If you use this bet properly it can improve your chances of making money in craps.

There are often streaks in craps, and it is common for players to bet more when they are winning and less when they are losing.  You can use a rotating field progression to help you determine whether to increase or decrease your bets.  When you are placing field bets, you should establish a goal for winnings and a limit for losses before you play.  Then make sure you stick to the limits that you have set.

You should start with a bet of about 1% of your buy-in.  So if your buy-in is $500, your first field bet should be $5.  Don’t place any other bets besides the field bet.  Your win goal and loss limit should both be about 30 percent of your buy-in.  In this example, that would be around $150.

You want to keep the field bet on for every roll, even the come out rolls.  Make sure the dealer knows that your bet is on before the come out roll.  You will not get paid if the dealer thinks your bet is off.

If you win after the first bet, increase your bet by one unit.  Continue increasing by one unit each time you win.  If you lose, reduce your bet by one unit.  This betting strategy will help you reduce your losses on losing streaks and increase your winnings during winning streaks.

Stick with this betting pattern until you reach your winning goal or your loss limit.  When you reach either one, it is time to stop playing.

A Craps Glossary Of Terms

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

There is a lot of terminology used in the game of craps that is confusing for new players.  First there is the advantage, or house edge.  If you have played other casino games, you may be familiar with this term.  It refers to the amount of advantage the casino has over the player.  In all casino games, the house has some sort of advantage, or edge.  The casino would not offer the game without having an advantage over the player.

The word craps has two meanings, besides being the name of the game.  The first meaning refers to rolling a 2, 3 or 12.  These numbers are considered craps.  They are non-point numbers.  The word craps or “any craps” is also used to refer to a bet that the shooter will roll one of the numbers that is considered craps on the next roll.  The term “any seven” refers to a bet that the shooter will roll a seven, in any combination of the dice (1-6, 2-5 or 3-4).

If you have been to the bar or the 12, this means you are in the don’t pass line and don’t come box area.  Behind the line means a bet made on the free odds after scoring a point on the come out roll.  Then there is betting left and betting right.  Betting right is betting on the dice to pass and betting left is betting against the dice.

When you bet the big 6 or the big 8, you are making an even-money bet that a six or an eight will be rolled before a seven is rolled.  The box numbers are the areas surrounding the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10.  Place and lay bets are made in this area.

Another term is boxcars, which refers to rolling a twelve.  The boxman is the worker who watches over the craps table.  He sits behind the chips during the game.

When players say to “bring out,” they are betting on a point.  The five percent commission paid to the casino is referred to as a buy bet.  When a player pays the commission to place a buy bet, they are paid based on the true odds rather than the normal payout if they win.  Craps bets found in the center of the layout are called center bets or proposition bets.

The tokens that are used to place bets are called chips.  These are used instead of money.  Cold dice are dice that don’t pass the line.  A color change refers to chips that change their denomination.

The don’t come bet is made by placing chips in the don’t come box.  This bet is made after the come out roll, which is the first roll in a round.  The don’t pass bet is made at the don’t pass line.

Double odds are free odds bets made at double the amount of the bet.  The expression easy way means that you are betting a number 4, 6, 8 or 10 in any of the possible combinations.  The hard way refers to rolling doubles.  The payoff on betting the easy way is an even-money bet.

A field bet is a bet that either a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 will be rolled next.  The stickman authorizes player credits and stands behind the craps tables to oversee everything and make sure there are no problems.

The house does not have the advantage on a free odds bet.  This can happen on a come, don’t come or taken pass after the point is established.  The pass line can also be referred to as the front line.

When someone bets a number the hard way, they are betting that the number will come up as doubles.  So if someone bets eight the hard way, and the shooter rolls 5-3, the bet is lost.  If the shooter rolls 4-4, the bet is won.  The hard way bet is also lost if the shooter rolls a seven.  If the shooter rolls any other number, the hard way bet is left in place for the next roll.

A high roller in craps, as in any other game, is a player who gambles a large amount of money at the table.  High rollers often bet thousands of dollars at a time.

A hop bet is a one roll bet on a specific dice combination, such as 2-3 or 5-5.  The bet is paid at 30 to 1 for hard way bets and 15 to 1 for easy way bets.

A place bet is a bet on the number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10.  If the number that is bet on comes up before the seven, then the bet is won.  A lay bet is the opposite of a place bet.  The lay bet is won if the seven comes up before the number does.

The term hot roll refers to the dice being held by one shooter for a long run before the seven comes up.  Rolling a seven once the number has been established ends the shooter’s turn.

Craps Technical Strategies

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

Playing Craps can be a lot of fun, but it’s a good idea to learn about the strategies for playing before you begin.  Here is a look at some of the technical strategies that can be used when playing craps.

The Martingale system is one strategy to consider using while playing craps.  Since craps is a game that is based on chance, this method helps reduce the chance of loss over the long run.  Using this system, you start with a dollar bet, then double it whenever you lose.  However, the downside of using this system is that you never really win much when you win.  Also, if you double your money every time, it will not take long for most people to run out of money during a losing streak.  This strategy requires a large bankroll to ride out the losses.

The parity hedge system is often pitched as a craps system, but most people believe it is a hoax.  However, there are still players who swear by this system.

The most promising strategy for playing craps appears to be setting the dice.  Rather than depending on luck to deliver the number that you are hoping for, this strategy involves practicing the way you throw the dice so that you will have a better chance of predicting the outcome of the throw.  The theory is that since dice are physical objects, if you throw them exactly the same way each time, you should get the same results.

This seems like the most likely strategy to actually work.  However, little research has been done on whether it is really possible for a person to get so good at throwing the dice that they can throw whatever number they want.

Of course, some people actually believe that they can influence the way the dice will land through some sort of mind control, rather than by physically controlling the way the dice are thrown.  They believe that if they visualize the way they want the dice to land, they will increase the chances of getting the desired number.

Whatever method or superstition you decide to incorporate when you are playing craps is ultimately up to you.  Whatever strategy you use, craps can be a fun and exciting game.  Hopefully, you will have fun playing it whether you win or lose.

The Control Strategy In Craps

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

There are many strategies for playing craps.  If you are going to play the game, you should try to learn about the strategies and skills that can help you do better while playing craps.

The illusion of control is one such strategy.  In this strategy, the player believes that he is able to control the way the dice will fall.  Of course, most people believe there is no way the player can really do this.

Believe it or not, researchers have actually done some testing in this area in order to try to prove that it is not possible.  Ellen Langer did a series of experiments in 1975.  She discovered that she could observe cues during a craps game that indicated a person’s level of involvement in influencing the roll of the dice.

Many craps players seem to believe that they are more likely to roll a high number if they roll the dice hard, and a lower number if they don’t.  However, the way the dice land is actually random, no matter how hard you throw them.

It is possible that some people may be better at guessing how the dice will land than others.  Also, if the shooter is distracted then he is less likely to throw well.

Taylor and Brown theorized that it might be possible for a player to influence the dice through optimism.  They believed that it may be possible for a player to increase the chances of getting the number they want by believing that it would happen.

Some other theories are that people who are sane will have better odds than those who are insane.  However, it was proven by Pacini, Muir and Epstein that people who are depressed actually seemed to do better at craps.

There are many things to consider when playing craps.  Whether you think you can learn to control the throw of the dice is something you can consider.  Investigate the strategies available and then go ahead and put them to the test.

How To Bet In Craps

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online craps No Comments →

Before you play craps at the casino, you need to learn about the different types of bets that can be made.  Here is an overview to help you learn about betting in Craps.

Before the dice are rolled, a general bet is made.  Sometimes a fire bet is made before the shooter takes off.  This bet is usually a $1 to $5 bet.  This bet is placed in the hopes that someone will go on a winning streak.

On a fire bet, there is no payout until the fourth point, which pays a $125 prize with the maximum bet.  If the player gets a fifth point, the prize is doubled, and so on for additional points.

The pass line bet is the main bet in craps.  Here’s how this bet works.  If the shooter rolls a seven or eleven on the come out roll, the bet wins.  If the shooter rolls craps (2, 3 or 12), the bet loses.  If the shooter rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, then the number that was rolled is established as the “point” number.  The pass line bet is then moved to the point number.  If the shooter rolls the point number again before he rolls a seven, the pass line bet is paid.  However, if the shooter rolls a seven before rolling the point number again, then the pass line bet is lost.

There is also an odds bet.  This bet has at least 8 ways to win and 24 ways to make a point.  With a little luck, craps combinations can be a good bet to place.

When you place a come bet, you are betting that the shooter will roll a seven or eleven on the next roll.  If a seven or eleven is rolled, the come bet is won.  If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, then the bet loses.  If any other number is rolled, the come bet is moved to the number that was rolled.  For example, if the number rolled was four, then the bet is moved to the four.  This is called traveling.  Once the bet has traveled to a number, that number must be rolled again before a seven is rolled in order for the bet to be won.

Some casinos place a ban on the two or the twelve.  If the shooter rolls one of these numbers then the competitor’s money is returned to him.

It can get pretty complex when you start betting against the shooter.  If there is a $10 don’t pass bet and a four is scored, you might want to try an odds bet behind the line for $20.  That way if the shooter rolls the seven, you could win some money for both bets.

There are a lot of bets in craps, and they can be rather confusing.  Make sure you understand them before you try placing them.  There are plenty of books that can help you understand the different bets so that you can develop a winning Craps strategy.
