A Short History Of The Roulette Game

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online roulette No Comments →

The history of the casino game roulette is anything but clear.  There are many myths and legends about how this popular game came into being.  One popular story claims that the game of roulette was invented by a French mathematician and philosopher named Blaise Pascal.  Pascal is known to have been fascinated with the idea of perpetual motion, and it is believed that his invention of the roulette wheel was the result of experiments in that area during the 17th century.

By the early 18th century, other versions of the game had been developed and were being played in England.  The first modern roulette table was created by two Frenchmen, Louis and François Blanc, in 1842.  The tables invented by these gentlemen featured the single zero roulette wheel that is still used in European roulette today.

Since gambling was illegal in France at the time, the Blanc brothers took their new roulette tables to the United States and all over Europe.  Because roulette was frequently played by royalty, it soon became known as the king of casino games.  Roulette has continued to grow and spread and is now one of the most popular casino games in the world.

Internet Roulette

Over the years, roulette has changed very little.  However, with the rapid advancements in technology in recent years, electronic versions of roulette have now become available.  This allows gamers to play roulette on their own computers.  Through the Internet, players can even gamble at online gambling sites with real money.  The game of roulette has now become accessible to anyone with a computer and modem, regardless of how far they are from the nearest casino.  Once reserved for royalty, roulette is now played by people of all social backgrounds and income levels.

Roulette is a very popular game that has been around for over 300 years, and it is likely to be around for many more.  The game has grown from an exclusive game played by the wealthy to a popular and fun game for anyone who wants to enjoy it.  This game could very well be around forever.
