What Are The Most Common Roulette Myths?

March 05, 2008 By: admin Category: online roulette No Comments →

Roulette is a simple game that doesn’t require any skill to play.  However, there are a lot of myths that make it out to be a lot more complicated than it really is.  Here are some common myths, along with explanations of why they are not accurate.

Myth #1:  All roulette wheels are the same.

This is not true.  There are actually two kinds of roulette wheels, American style and European.  The American roulette wheel has 38 slots, including two zero spaces.  The European roulette wheel has 37 slots and only one zero space.  If you figure up the odds, that extra space on the American wheel makes quite a difference.  The house advantage on the American roulette wheel is 5.26% and on the European roulette wheel it is only 2.70%.  So you will have much better odds of winning playing on a European roulette wheel.

Myth #2:  You can predict what is likely to come up based on patterns.

Roulette is completely random.  It doesn’t matter if the ball has stopped on black twenty times in a row, there is still an equal chance of the ball landing on either black or red next time.  This is true no matter how many times in a row the same color has come up.

Myth #3:  A mathematical system can help you win at roulette.

First of all, even if it worked, it is impossible to use a mathematical system to predict the most likely numbers to come up unless you have a lot of historical data on which to base your calculations.  It is impossible to calculate results based on past data if you don’t have any past data.  But mathematical systems don’t work anyhow.  The reason for this is that roulette is a game that is based completely on chance.
